Muse
for Hazel

Your body is made
of pure poetry.
Words and images
stick to my fingers
when I run them
through your hair
to rub off onto pages
we turn together.

Your body is made
of pure poetry.
Simile and metaphor
soak into my lips
from your mouth and
linger when we kiss,
waiting to float off
into the air.

Your body is made
of pure poetry.
In it, I find everything
I need to know.
Power and passion,
drama and love,
life and death
are cradled there.

(first published in the Scottish-Italian anthology, 5PX2)
